Marcus Muckey Is Taken By Death
Father of Mapleton Man Passes Away in Home of
Daughter in Oregon

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church here Wednesday afternoon for Marcus Muckey, 84 year old former pioneer resident of Mapleton and father of Frelan Muckey of Mapleton. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Wedmore, in Portland, Ore., Friday.

Rev. George A. Osborn, pastor of the church was in charge of the services. Interment was in Heisler Cemetery near Mapleton under direction of the Byers Funeral home.

Pallbearers wore George Zediker, Racy Zediker, Lawrence Muckey, J Clark Muckey, Nelson Muckey and Earl Hasbrouck.

Born in Milwaukee, Wis. July 4, 1860, he came to Mapleton with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Muckey when he was 1 year old. He grew to manhood on the Muckey farm at the south edge or Mapleton, now a part of the residential district.

He was married in 1884 to Miss Mary Ball, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nate Ball. Mrs. Muckey died 38 years ago. He made his home the last three years with Mrs. Wedmore on Oregon.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Wedmore of Portland, Mrs. Jessie Lukhart of South Sioux City, Neb., and Mrs. Hazel Rempp of Yankton, S. D., and 3 sons Freland of Mapleton, Roy of Olympia, Cal., and Lloyd of Yankton, he also is survived by 36 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Seven grandsons are in the Armed forces. Five children preceded their father in death.

Among out of town relatives here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Muckey and daughters, Laverne and Marcine, Mrs. Vernon Kirschenmann and daughter, Linda, Mr. and .Mrs. Rempp and son, Harold, Mrs. Clifford Brewer and Mrs. Elizabeth Rempp of Yankton, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lukhart and children, Mrs. Elmer Queen, Mr. and Mrs. Ewan Ball and Mrs. Roy Johns of South Sioux City, Mrs. Essie Tippery of Walthill, Neb., Mrs. Albert Pauley of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Muckey of Ida Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hull and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Christenson of Smithland and Mrs. Bud Allen of Onawa.
