W. H. MUCKEY DIES; LAST RITES SUNDAY

LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF MAPLETON
CONFIDENT OF RECOVERY
UNTIL FEW HOURS BEFORE THE END

W. H. Muckey, life-long resident of this community, died at his home in Mapleton last Thursday afternoon after a long illness. He was 62 years old.

Mr. Muckey had been falling for two years. Neither the family physician nor specialists were able to conquer his ailment. But Mr. Muckey never gave up hope until the last few hours of his life. Although helpless during the last few months he never complained.

Mrs. Muckey, his wife, fought the battle of sickness with him. She was constantly at his side, ministering to her companion in the hope that the tide would turn toward the better. Mr. and Mrs. Muckey had driven to Ute on the Sunday morning preceding his death. Upon their return from the trip, he suffered a relapse from which he failed to rally.

Mr. Muckey was born on the old Muckey homestead, where his brother, Clark, resides. November 19, 1866, after he grew to manhood he married Miss Lennie Newman. They engaged in farming, which they continued until two years ago when his health began to fail.

Besides his widow, Mr. Muckey is survived by three sons and one daughter. They are: Nelson Muckey, Theodore Muckey, Orlando Muckey, and Mrs. Margaret Johns. The sons live here, while the daughter resides at Winnebago. Nebr.

Surviving brothers are: Marcus Muckey, of Yankton. S. D., and Clark Muckey, of Mapleton.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with Rev. George W. Dunn or St. John's Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Heisler cemetery.

Relatives from a distance at the funeral were: William Wittsey, of Oakaton, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lukehart, of Elk Point, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Tippery, of Walthill, Nebr.; Elmer Quinn, of Winnebago, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ball and Oscar Bali, of Walthill, Nebr.
