Funeral Services Are Held Thursday for Resident Here Last 68 Years
Funeral services for Clark Muckey, 68-year-old resident of this Community, who passed away at his farm home on the south edge of Mapleton Monday morning of an acute stomach infection, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in St. John's Methodist church with Rev. A. F. Shuldt, pastor of the church, officiating.
Interment was in Heisler Cemetery under the direction of the Byers Funeral home.
Pallbearers were George Dean, D. D. Cameron. R. Porter, Walter Bray, Sam Chapman and C. E. Blankenhorn.
Mr. Muckey, son of Mary Ann Kelly and Joseph Muckey, was born September 15, 1869, in what is now known as "Old Mapleton." He was married to Miss Elizabeth Peacock May 31, 1891, in Mapleton.
Mr. and Mrs. Muckey went to housekeeping on the farm just south of Mapleton which has been their home continuously since. Mrs. Muckey preceded her husband in death in March, 1936.
Mr. Muckey was a loyal worker in the Odd Fellow and Rebekah lodges and at one time held office in the Grand lodge. He had a jovial disposition and could always find time to chat and joke with his many friends. He was ill only three days and his death was unexpected.
He is survived by 10 children, Mrs. Lillian Zediker, Lawrence Muckey, John Muckey, Clark Muckey, Jr., Miss Helen Muckey, and Paul Muckey, all of Mapleton. Mrs. Edna Zediker of Castana, Mrs. Dolly Magnisen of Arthur, James Muckey of Hood River, Ore., and Mrs. Pauline Kremer of Mitchell, S. D.
He also is survived by 16 grandchildren, 5 great - grandchildren and one brother, Marcus Muckey of Yankton, S. D. One son Walter Lorenzo Muckey preceded him in death when 2 years old.
