Was Searching for Stock When Hit by Lightning Bolt as Wife Sat In Car
George T Dean, 72-year-old pioneer resident of Mapleton was killed instantly when he was struck by lightning at his farm home east of Mapleton early Tuesday evening. In company with Mrs. Dean he was searching for some cattle, and had walked about 2 rods from their car in, witch Mrs. Dean was sitting, when the lightning struck.
Mr. Dean was born August, 1871, on the same farm which his parents homesteaded, and had lived there all his life, except two years which were spent in Canada on a homestead.
Funeral services for Mr. Dean will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist church Burial will be in the Heisler cemetery.
The Byers Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge.
Mr. Dean is survived by his widow and 3 daughters, Mrs. Ronald Leetch of Castana, Mrs. Marion Rose of Mapleton and Mrs. Leonard Brockelsby of Canada, and 6 sons, Wilbur Dean at home, Leo Dean, Claude Dean, George E. Dean of Mapleton, Glen Dean of Brightview, Alberta, Canada and Robert Dean in the Armed Forces.
