Ruth Strait, age 93, of Battle Creek died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, with the Rev. Randy Cormeny officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Battle Creek.

Ruth Marie Mohr was born on June 18, 1918, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Kiepe) Mohr in Ute, Iowa. She attended rural schools and St. Paul's Lutheran Parochial School. Ruth was baptized on July 14, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute by the Rev. R. Amstein. She was confirmed on March 20, 1932, at St. Paul Lutheran by the Rev. Krog.

On April 11, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Lawrence S. Strait at Ute Lutheran Parsonage by the Rev. Hugo Nieting. The couple was blessed with three daughters, Leila, Lana, and Jan.

Ruth was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors are her three daughters, Leila (Tom) Lang of Lawton, Iowa, Lana (Art) Cruz of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jan (Dan) Brosnahan of Logan, Iowa; six grandchildren, Chris (Sherry) Lang of Orange City, Iowa, Jamie (Brooke) Lang of Lawton, Cari (Ryan) Gehling of Sergeant Bluff, Megan (Jon) Armbrust of Omaha, Ryan Brosnahan of Ames, Iowa, and Eric Brosnahan of Logan; eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Karli, and Colin Lang of Orange City, Olivia, Madyson, and Jordyn Lang of Lawton, Alexis Gehling of Sergeant Bluff, and Addison Armbrust of Omaha; two sisters, Marcella Kuehl of Mapleton, Iowa, and Barbara (Warren) Thies of Ute; a brother, Fred (Darlene) Mohr of Ute; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Ron) Sorenson of Omaha; and a brother-in-law, Loren (Julie) Strait of Charter Oak, Iowa; special friends, Roger, Joan, and Dan Nielsen, Arlene Mildenstein; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; her husband, Lawrence, on May 18, 2011; and two sisters, Phyllis Runkle and Edna Jahn.
