24 September 1964Ivan William Blakely son of William A. and Ella (Butcher) Blakely was born near Grant Center from a severe coronary September 16, 1964.
On September 20, 1923, h e was united in marriage to Ida Ruth Bentley of Onawa. To this union four children were born, two daughters, Wilda Jeanette, Betty Ruth and one son, Loren Wilbur. One son, Cecil Ivan, preceded him in death.
Mr. Blakely was an active member of the Ticonic Methodist church and a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge. He had been a lifetime resident of the Grant Center community and a farmer all his life.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McCleerey (Jeanette) of Cherokee, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Boles (Betty Ruth) of Glenwood and one son, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Blakely of Grant Center. One half brother, Ira J. Jacobson of Mapleton, one brother, Albert H. Blakely of rural Castana and a foster sister, Mrs. Eua Nagel of Grant Center. There are seven grandchildren, a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 19 at the Methodist church at Ticonic. Rev. Byron Ayers officiated at the service. Darrell Larson, accompanied by Mrs. Glen Skow sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Some Day He'll Make It Plain."
The pallbearers were Dale and Robert Jacobson, Gail Blakely, Charles Bentley, Charles Persinger and Philip Nagel. Ushers for the service were Glen Skow and Rex Persinger. Mesdames Orlo Johnson and Waldo Lundeen were in charge of flowers and memorials. Interment was at the Grant cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson funeral home of Onawa.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois, and Iowa.
