Clifford A. Lee, 95, of Onawa, formerly of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Premier Estates in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Barb Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and Soldier Valley American Legion No. 462. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Clifford was born March 9, 1917, at Soldier, Iowa, the son of Sam and Pauline (Berg) Lee. He attended school and graduated from Soldier High School in 1935.

Clifford and Edna M. Larson were united in marriage on Jan. 28, 1940, at Charter Oak, Iowa. Clifford entered the Army in 1945 as a clerk typist at Fort Shaffer, Hawaii, until he was honorably discharged. He then managed the Farmers Co-op Oil Company at Soldier for many years.

The couple made their home in Soldier, Iowa, before moving to Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1972, when he accepted a job with the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Clifford retired in April of 1982. After retirement, they purchased a house in Onawa.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. He was also a member of the Soldier Valley American Legion No. 462. Clifford’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, and enjoying family.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, John and Donna Lee of Ogden, Utah, and Alan and Carolyn Lee of Soldier; three daughters and their husbands, Jean and Richard Ruth of Onawa, Susan and Michael Miller of Moorhead, Iowa, and Melanie and Jon Hansen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonita and her husband, John Britton of Riverside, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Loretta Tanberg, Betty Tanberg and Alma and her husband, Robert Glau; a brother-in-law, Al Hennings; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; parents; stepfather, Oscar Tanberg; brother, Lyle and his wife, Eileen Lee; and two half brothers, William Tanberg and Robert Tanberg.
