Karen Weber, 61, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton and Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Brian Danner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Karen Elizabeth Weber was born Aug. 10, 1950, at Sioux City, the daughter of Leo and Helen (Uhl) Weber. She grew up in the Mapleton area and attended school through the eighth grade at the Oto Public School and the Danbury Catholic School. She attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa, and later worked at Goodwill Industries in Sioux City. After moving to Le Mars, Iowa, Karen worked at Plymouth Life in their laundry facility and proudly lived independently in her own apartment. She then moved to the Abbey and in July of 2011, entered Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Karen was talented with puzzles, compiling scrapbooks, embroidering dish towels and pillow covers and writing letters. She loved Garfield, kittens and puppies. Karen had a great memory and was always a very social person.

Survivors include her parents, Leo and Helen Weber of Mapleton; three sisters and one brother, Lynette Weber of Denver, Colo., Mark Weber and his wife, Laura of Mapleton, and their children, Beth, Paul and Anne Weber, Patricia Gleason of Denver, Colo., and her children, Bridget, Colin and Mary Kate Gleason, and Laurie Weber of Mapleton.

Karen was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Anna Weber; maternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth Uhl; and a brother, Gary Leo Weber.
