Robert Roselle Smothers, son of Henry and Mary Smothers, was born July 12, 1873, in Saline County, Nebr., and passed away March 19, 1953, in the Onawa hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on the preceding Saturday When about one year of age, he moved with his parents to lowa, and lived the remainder of his life in and around Monona county

On November 16, 1893, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Catherine Dunbar. To this union five children were born.

Mr. Smothers was member of the Ticonic Methodist Church and in his earlier life was regular in attendance.

Proceeding in death were two sons, Leonard LeRoy, who died in April, 1930, and Glen Jennings in September, 1950.

He is survived by one son, Donald Robert of Hornick, two daughters, Daisy Linden of Kiron and Maude Persinger of Rodney, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ida Hummer of Ticonic, Jennie Cripes of Blayne, Mo., two brothers, George of Marionville, Mo., and Fred of Smithland and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. church in Ticonic with Rev. Norris of Smithland officiating and burial was made In the Grant cemetery.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Thur Linden, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Larsen and Mrs. Rule Jenkins, all of Kiron, Mrs. Jennie Cripe of Blayne, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lundeen of Lake Park, lowa, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Cleveland of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Davies and Sam Hall of Castana, Mr. and Mrs. Christy McClatchey of Mapleton, Mr. and Mrs. George Lundell, Richard Linden, Willard Linden and Julius of Kiron.
