Glenn Jennings Smothers was born November 22, 1896 to Robert and Cathering Smothers near Oto. He grew to manhood and attended the public schools, living in Woodbury and Monona counties. He entered the service of his country and served overseas in Italy, France and Germany He was discharged in 1919 and returned home to marry Emily Blanche Houchins of Ticonic After two years of farming near Grant Center he attended a barber's school and followed the trade the remainder of his life. He passed away at Onawa in the nursing home there on the 19 of September at the age of 53 years 9 months and 28 days.

He is survived by his wife Blanche Smothers, his daughter Eleanor and his three grandchildren Janie, Cheryle and Jackie Also his father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Lunden of Kiron, Iowa and Mrs. Maude Persinger of Rodney and a brother Donald Smothers of Hornick, Ia. He had a brother Leonard who passed on in 1930.

Funeral services were held Friday. Sept. 22 at the Methodist church In Ticonic Rev Howard McAllister of Smithland officiated. Burial was in Grant Cemetery with Willman funeral home in Rodney in charge.
