Ella Nagel, age 91, of Grant Center, Iowa, died Friday March 8, 1996 at Sioux City. Iowa.

Services were held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Armstrong Funeral Chapel in Mapleton with Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa. Laura Adams was the organist for the service and Rose Nagel, soloist, sang "One Day At A Time" and "The Old Rugged Cross". A prayer service was held on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Gary Armstrong officiating at Armstrong Chapel.

Ella H. Nagel was born June 3, 1904, in Redington, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Adeline Rebecca (Butcher) Cheeney. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Wilbur and Martha Ellen Blakely. Following graduation from Mapleton High School she taught at Grant Center. She married Valentine Nagel February 12. 1922. The couple farmed their entire lives in the Grant Center area. Mr. Nagel died December 18. 1971.

Ella was the longest member of the Ticonic Methodist Church and she was also a member of the Rodney Senior Center. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, ceramics, making quilts, and a good game of pinochle.

Survivors include three sons, Everett of Onawa, Iowa. Leonard of Lancaster, California, and Philip of Warsaw, Missouri; a daughter, Eva Hartje of McClelland, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Ella was preceded in death by her parents, two sons. Lloyd and
Richard: two sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers were Steven Nagel, Michael Nagel, David Hartje, Kevin Humlicek, Scott Blakely and Larry Teel.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
