Services Held for Lewis Leisinger

Lewis Fredrick Leisinger, son of Augustav and Emma (Miller) Leisinger, was born June 17, 1891 at Chamois, Missouri, and died Tuesday, October 1, 1974 at Sioux City, Iowa. He had reached the age of 83 year 3 months and 14 days.

Mr. Leisinger lived in Missouri until the age of 19 when he came to Monona County, Iowa, and he farmed in that area for about 20 years. He married Grace Riley on May 24, 1920 at Onawa, Iowa, and they lived in the communities of Castana and Soldier before moving to Mapleton in 1940.

He had worked for a .short time for the Haubrich Construction Company in Mapleton, worked and managed a recreation parlor in Mapleton for about 7 years and was a feed salesman for the Standard Chemical Co. for 11 years. He also served as the Soldier Relief Commissioner in Monona County for 14 years. He served in the Army during World War 1 and was a 50-year member of the Loren-Hollister American Legion Post #496 at Mapleton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Grace, of Mapleton; five daughters: Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Archer of Onawa, Mrs. Earl (Gladys) Phipps of Onawa,, Mrs. Leonard (Darlene) Wacheldorf of Mapleton, Mrs. Dean (Norma) Kohler of Spring Hill, Kansas and Mrs. Marvin (Donna) Larson of Ute; two -sons, Vernon of Moville and Fred of Mapleton; one brother, Allie of Portland, Missouri, three sisters: Mrs. Loraine White of Portland Missouri, Mrs. Gladys Vandelicht of Mokine, Missouri and Mrs. Hasel Lee of Fulton, Missouri; 26 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 4, 1974 at 10:30 a.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated and burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa. Graveside military rites were performed by the Loren-Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton.

Pallbearers were: Don Ladwig, Joe Bollig, Clifford Reed, Ronald LeFebvre, Clarence Gries and John Hinrickson.
