Genevieve Mae Baker, 90, of Whiting died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at her home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, rural Whiting. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Genevieve was born July 28, 1921, in Lawton, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Bertha (Wick) Quintard. She attended rural school for a number of years before graduating from Lawton High School. Following graduation, she attended Wayne State Teacher College for two years, where she earned a teaching certificate. She returned to the Lawton area and taught at a rural school.

Genevieve and Leroy Baker were united in marriage in Lawton on March 10, 1943. They moved to the Whiting area, where she taught at the Whiting Community School. When their two children were young, she became the school secretary and secretary of the school board until 1959. After, she taught the sixth grade until 1986. Over this time period, Genevieve attended classes at Morningside College and earned a bachelor of arts degree.

Genevieve was actively involved in the Whiting Christian Church for a great number of years. She volunteered as the church clerk and taught Sunday School for decades.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela (Norman) Dunbar of Whiting; one son, Bradley (Nancy) Baker of Joplin, Mo.; four grandchildren, Matthew Dunbar of Sioux City, Elizabeth Dunbar of Sioux City, Kevin Baker of San Antonio, Texas, and Holly (Wallace) Ray of Kansas City, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Isaac Ray, Catherine Warren, Grace Dunbar-Hoffman, and Isaiah Dunbar-Hoffman; one sister, Joyce Rhue of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law, Francis Quintard of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Evelyn Weaver; and two brothers, Melvin Quintard and Leroy Quintard.
