Dorothy J. Hanks, age 70, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Sunday, December 22, 1996 at her residence.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerald Kapanka officiating. Burial was in Grant Cemetery in Rodney. Iowa. Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Berger Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hanks was born February 27, 1926, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Eva Maude (Harsh) Ingram. She graduated from Mapleton High School and Westmar College. She married Dale Hanks on February 28, 1946, in Onawa. He died in 1981. She was employed at Zenith as a production worker and for the last 16 years, she was a full-time child care provider in the Leeds area.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Dorcus Circle. She was a school tutor and enjoyed sewing and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Donald of Sioux City, Ronald and his wife, Dawn of Climbing Hill, Iowa and Lyle and his wife, Rosie of Hinton. Iowa: three daughters, Sharon and Joyce Mead, both of Sioux City and Sandy and her husband, Randy Grasz of Merrill Iowa: 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;. three brothers, Paul, and Roger and his wife, Kay, all of Mapleton, Iowa and Newell and his wife, Janice of Danbury, Iowa; and two sisters, Margaret and her husband, Jim Weidman of Aurora, Illinois and Gertrude Ingram of Sheridan, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Corey.

Pallbearers were Harold Broderson, Reggie McCloud, Bill Heckert, Ron Watt Brian Albertson and Danny Gross.
