Ellen Towne, 78, of Onawa passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, at her residence.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Elder Donnie Bothwell officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery.

Ellen Gertrude was born March 30, 1933, at Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of Guy Otto and Irene Anna (Lane) Brunstedt. She graduated from Magnolia (Iowa) High School in 1951. She later completed a banking course in Omaha, Neb.

Ellen and James Blaine Towne were united in marriage May 26, 1951, at Logan, Iowa.

She was a bookkeeper and teller at various banks at North Platte, Neb., Fremont, Neb., Camden, Mo., and Onawa. She was also a telemarketer with Pioneer Technologies and received numerous awards. Ellen retired May 30, 1993.

She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, James "Jim" of Onawa; a son and his wife, Jon and Sally Towne of Onawa; four granddaughters, Lindsey and her husband Michael Wiley of Iowa City, Alison Towne of Omaha, and Elicia Towne and Cynthia Towne, both of Onawa; and two great-grandchildren, Audry and Norah Wiley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; and a sister and her husband, Myrna and
