William "Bill" Dean Roberg, 82, of Mapleton, formerly of the Castana, Iowa, area, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Turin (Iowa) United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Angela Gafford Asmus officiating. Burial will follow in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, with military honors conducted by American Legion Grimsley Thayer Post 502 of Castana. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic service by Vesper Lodge 223 A.F. & A.M. of Onawa, at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

William "Bill" Dean Roberg, son of Fred and Freda (Carlson) Roberg, was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Correctionville, Iowa. In his early years, Bill and his family made their home in Correctionville, then moved to Turin and later Castana. He graduated from Castana High School in 1947. On June 10, 1953, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the military on May 2, 1955, at Fort Bragg, N.C.

On Feb. 6, 1966, Bill was united in marriage to Anna Elizabeth Anderson in Omaha, Neb. For several years, they made their home in the Turin and Castana area. Bill farmed for several years until his retirement in 2003. In the most recent years, Bill and Anna made their home in Mapleton. Anna passed away on May 1, 2011.

Bill was a member of Turin United Methodist Church, Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post 502 in Castana, Vesper Lodge 223 A.F. & A.M. in Onawa, Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Sioux City, and the Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City.

Grateful for having shared Bill's life are his sister, Marian Fisher and friend, Gary Pacey of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cade (John Richard) of Simi, Calif., and Betty Elwell (Leland Read) of Ardmore, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; and two sisters, Marjorie in 1910 and Lucille in 2001.
