ONAWA, Iowa -- Robert L. Cass, 86, of Onawa passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Barb Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Robert L. Cass was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Harry W. and Lena Margaret (Cyriacks) Cass. He was raised in the Sloan, Iowa, area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1944.

Robert and Shirlee Solien were united in marriage on April 18, 1947, in Onawa. They made their home in Sloan, where he operated the DX Station and automobile dealership. In 1970, the couple moved to Onawa and established Cass Motors, which they owned and operated until their retirement.

Bob was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was always an active person who enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, caring for his lawn and spending time with his family and many friends playing cards and visiting.

Survivors include his wife, Shirlee of Onawa; his children, Randy and his wife, Dawn Cass of Onawa, and Cindy Parker of Jackson, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Tim (Tracie), Brian (Margie), Rachael, Bradley, Eric and Allison (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Tawnie, Alexander, Timmie and Tiffanie; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Waldo; and a son-in-law, Alan Parker.
