Merlin Waldo Davis, age 83, of Castana, died Friday, March 4, 1988, at the Elmwood Nursing Home at Onawa.

Services were held on Monday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Castana Community Church of Christ in Castana, Iowa with Pastor Richard Hempenius officiating. Patsy Petersen was the organist and Nancy Hanson and Cathy Hanson sang a duet.

Burial was in Center Cemetery in Castana, Iowa. A prayer services
was held on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Davis was born March 28, 1904 to William Davis and Nellie (Pembrook) Davis at Castana. Iowa. He attended schools in Blencoe, Turin and Castana. As a young man, he moved to Wyoming for a short time. He later returned to a farm in the Mapleton area. Merlin married Helen Warren on December 19. 1928, at Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Mapleton and Castana vicinity.
They retired and moved into the town of Castana in 1973. Due to failing health, he had resided at the Elmwood Nursing Home at Onawa for the last 2 1/2 years. He was affiliated with the Castana Community United Church of Christ and was a member of the Golden Age Club of Castana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, eight brothers, one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Howard of Castana and Ronald of Onawa; four daughters, Mrs. Darlyne Leisinger of Onawa, Mrs. Arthur (Garnet) Miller of Hooper, Nebraska, Donna Davis of Castana and Mrs. John (Carol) Newman of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Irwin of Onawa and Mrs. Leona Roe of Des Moines, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Edwin Leisinger. Dennis Leisinger. Adam Davis, Todd Davis, Toby Miller, Larry Holtzen and Greg Wagner.
