Emma I. Kragel

Emma I Kragel, age 90, of Mapleton, Iowa, died on Friday, February 6, 1988, in a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital after a short illness.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 1988, at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Reverend Les Kimball officiating.

Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. February 7, 1988, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kragel, formerly Emma Irene Petersen, was born on October 7, 1897, to Julius and Augusta (Baker) Petersen, near Mapleton, Iowa. She grew up and attended schools in Mapleton, Iowa. She married Fritz Kragel on June 6, 1917, at Mapleton. Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Sidney, Nebraska, for nine years. They moved back to Mapleton, Iowa, in 1926, where they farmed. They moved to a farm, near Charter Oak, Iowa, in 1940. They retired in 1957, moving back to Mapleton, Iowa.

Mr. Kragel died on August 4, 1969. Mrs. Kragel had been a resident at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, for the past eight years. Mrs. Kragel was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church and of the Lots Circle of the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Viola Larten. And three grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Berniece Hauschildt of Chula Vista, California, and Mrs. Rudolph (Emma Jean) Kepka of Sioux City, Iowa; two
sons, Edgar of Sussex, Wisconsin, Wisconsin, and Paul of Minomoce Falls, Wisconsin: a sister. Mrs. Velma Baker of Mapleton, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rudolph Kepka, Orville Nathlich, Ray Else, Wayne Scheer, Gary Thies, and Leo Dose.
