UTE, Iowa—Andrew Oliver “Andy” Swenson, 84, of Ute died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1992, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Soldier Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Soldier.
Mr. Swenson was born Feb. 9, 1908, on a farm southeast of Soldier, the son of Swen A. and Olena (Peterson) Swenson. Most of his life was spent in the Moorhead, Soldier and Ute areas. A radio and television repairman, he operated his own radio shop as a young man. On Feb. 14, 1929, he married Pauline A. Reeder in Soldier. The couple moved to Soldier in 1951 where he was active in community affairs. He drove a school bus for 19 years, coached Little League ball teams, and was mayor, policeman and fire chief for the town of Soldier. He worked for Jordan-Soldier Valley Telephone Co. as a lineman for many years. After moving to Ute in 1970, he worked for Warren’s TV. He also was a mechanic at the hardware store in Moorhead. Mrs. Swenson preceded him in death.
Mr. Swenson was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joan and Glen Butler of Soldier; three sons and their wives, Myron and Lou Swenson of Sioux City, James and Helene Swenson of Carson City, Nev., and Robert and Mary Swenson of Moreno Valley, Calif.; three brothers, Swen K. of Fonda and Clifford and Harold, both of Moorhead; a sister, Lillian Price of Council Bluffs; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Husted; and a grandson, Travis.
