John Anton Theobald was born May 28. 1887 at Mount Carmel, Iowa, and died at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness on Tuesday, Sent. 27. 1960, at the age of 73 years, three months and 29 days.

Mr. Theobald was a well known retired cattle feeder and farmer. He moved to the Danbury community with his parents at the age of three. He had farmed in the Mapleton community for many years. He retired and moved in town in 1952.

He married Mary Hupke January 10, 1916 at Danbury. Mr. Theobald was a member of St, Mary church, the Holy Name society, and served as a trustee of Maple Township for many years.

Survivors include: the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Hoesing and Mrs. Robert Sperry, both of Mapleton, and Mrs. Francis Zerwes of Manning; four sons, Lester and Donald, both of Mapleton; Ralph of Chicago Heights', Ill., and Harlan of Ute; two brothers, Rev. Msgr. George Theobald of Hospers and Nick Theobald of Anthon; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Dirksen, Sr., of Mapleton and Sister M. Albino, O.S.F., of Dubuque, and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church here. Rev. Msgr. George Theobald of Hospers was the Celebrant, assisted by Rev. A, H. Ocken, Deacon; and Rev. A . M. Conlon, Sub-Deacon.

Pallbearers wore: Joe Thiel, Al Bruning . Archie Baker. Myron Brenner, Ed Struble and Joseph Dirksen Jr. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home.
