ONAWA, Iowa -- Ellen Yvonne (Ryan) Heisterkamp, 79, of Onawa, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane, celebrant. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Yvonne was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Oct. 10, 1931 to Leonard and Gladys (Page) Ryan. She grew up on a farm west of Crescent, Iowa, before moving to Onawa at the age of 12. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1949.

Yvonne and Delbert Heisterkamp were married on Sept. 19, 1950, in Onawa, then moved to a farm southeast of Blencoe, Iowa. Four years later, they moved to Ute, Iowa, and farmed there for another three years. In 1957, Yvonne and Delbert moved back to Onawa to work for her dad at Ryan Implement. In 1966, Ryan Implement became Heisterkamp Equipment until Delbert and Yvonne retired in 1999.

Yvonne was a longtime member of St. John's Catholic Church and was active in both community and church organizations, having served as president for the Deanery Council of Catholic Women, Onawa Woman's Club, and St. John's Rosary Society. She also volunteered her time over the years at the Monona County Fair. Yvonne enjoyed reading, cross stitch, and quilting, as well as spending time with her family and hosting family gatherings.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Delbert of Onawa; five sons and one daughter, Greg (Jane) of Sloan, Iowa, David of Omaha, Debra (Keira) Smith of Sioux City, Kevin (Doreen) of Storm Lake, Iowa, Keith (Regina) of Sioux City and Mark of Omaha; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; in-laws, Yvonne Hanneman of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Verla Benjamin of Onawa, Ardith Olson of Onawa, Mavis Ryan of Blencoe, Patricia Heisterkamp of Onawa, Joanne Heisterkamp of Blencoe, Franklin and Wanda Heisterkamp of Blencoe, Gayle Keele of Gilbert, Ariz., and Ron and Geri Heisterkamp of Mondamin, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dwayne Ryan; and an infant sister, Donna Mae.
