Conyers, Russell ~ 1979

Russell Keith Conyers, the son of Arthur M. and Maude (Vanness) Conyers was born January 22, 1914, near Moorhead, Iowa.

Russ grew up and lived in the Moorhead-Onawa communities coming to Mapleton 35 years ago. He worked with his dad at the Conoco Gas Station in Mapleton.

He was united in marriage to Clara Koenigs on September 14, 1935 at Sioux City, Iowa. After marriage, they moved to California for two years, later moving back to Mapleton. When they returned to Mapleton they owned and operated the Paramount Café for two years. Since 1948 Russ has owned and operated the Conyers Music Service.

Russ passed away at a Sioux City hospital on Thursday, January 25, 1979 at the age of 65 years and 3 days. Surving(sic) are one son, Robert of Mapleton, his mother, Maude Conyers, of Mapleton, three grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services were held Monday, January 29, 1979 at 10:30 a.m. at the Walter Chapel in Mapleton with Rev. Louis Aitken officiating.

Mrs. Nadine McVicker provided the music.

Pallbearers were Elmer Cooper, Jerry Bumstead, Darrell Uhl, Donald Greenwough(sic), Pat Greenough, and Jake Powell. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa under the direction of Walter Funeral Service .
