Louis Herman Bruhn, the son of Peter and Marie (Fick) Bruhn was born Oct. 9, 1904, in Soldier Township, rural Mapleton. He was baptized March 28, 1905, at Immanuel and confirmed March 28, 1920, also at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He married Garent Ernst, Feb. 2, 1930, at Schleswig, Iowa. They farmed in the Mapleton and Charter Oak communities until 1974 when they retired and moved to Mapleton.
Louis Herman Bruhn died, July 17, 1986, at his home in Mapleton after a short illness. Having reached the age of 81 years, nine months and eight days. Louis Bruhn was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. A past trustee of Immanuel Lutheran Church and former member of Immanuel Lutheran School Board in Soldier Township. He was a past School director of rural Mapleton school and a member of the Mapleton Senior Citizens Club where he served on the task force and advisory board.
Survivors include his wife, Garent; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Lois) Harmening of Carroll; three sons, Virgil of Mapleton, Curtiss of Denison and David of Charter Oak; two brothers, Leo of Mapleton and Irving of Denison; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Hilda) Brockman of Mountain Home, Ark.; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and one son, Lowell.
Funeral services were held July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Officiating was Vicar Steve Hulke, Norma Dose was organist. Pallbearers were Orville Groth, Dale Bruhn, LaVern Eyer, Vertus Brockman, Dennis Bruhn, Edwin Vahlkamp.
Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, with Walter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
