Ronald A. Fritz, age 50, and Barbara E. Fritz, age 48, of Castana, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 11, 1989, of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident near Galva, Iowa.

Combined services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 1989, in the St. Matthew Lutheran Church at Mapleton, Iowa, with the Reverend Les Kimball, pastor, officiating. The burial was in the Center Township Cemetery, near Castana, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 1989, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton, Iowa.

Mr. Fritz was born on July 19, 1938, at Soldier, Iowa, and moved with his family as a child to the Castana area. He graduated from the Castana Public High School in 1957. On June 5, 1959, he married Barbara Bielenberg at Mapleton, Iowa. The couple lived near Castana, Correctionville and Mapleton, Iowa, and returned to Castana, Iowa, in 1966. They owned and operated Fritz Garbage Service, serving Mapleton, Castana, Moorhead, Ute, Soldier, Anthon, Danbury, Oto, Rodney, Smithland, Blencoe and Whiting, Iowa. He also had worked for the Collins Motor Supply at Mapleton, Iowa, Stangel Brothers at Onawa, Iowa, and Brown Auto at Mapleton and Correctionville, Iowa. He presently was a bundle carrier for the “Sioux City Journal” and was a bundle carrier for the “Des Moines Register” for twenty-two years.

Mr. Fritz was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church at Mapleton, Iowa. He was a past member of the Castana Town Council and was a former mayor. He was a member of the Castana Volunteer Fire Department and the Monona County Special Deputies.

Ronald was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie Fritz of Onawa, Iowa; a brother, Richard of Hinton, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Denny (Linda) Mason of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Mrs. Allen (Sandra) Hansohn of Kiron, Iowa.

Pallbearers for Ronald were Danny Fitzpatrick, John Zediker, Harold Johnston, Bert Dimig, Chuck Wessling, and Denny Smith.

Mrs. Fritz, the former Barbara Ellen Bielenberg, was born on March 18, 1940, near Charter Oak, Iowa. She graduated from the Charter Oak Public High School in 1959. She married Ronald Fritz on June 6 (?), 1959, at Mapleton, Iowa. She was partner in the family business and had served on the Castana City Council and the Castana Centennial Committee. She had worked at Nelson’s Bakery in Onawa, Iowa, was a custodian at the Maple Valley School in Castana, Iowa, and previously worked at the Casey’s Store in Mapleton, Iowa.

Mrs. Fritz was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her mother, Eva Bielenberg of Charter Oak, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Aaron (Shirley) Raszler and Mrs. Richard (Lois) Weiss, both of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Melvin (Linda) Cerny of Ashland, Nebraska; six brothers, Merle of Schleswig, Iowa, Richard of Morrison, Illinois, Virgil of Storm Lake, Iowa, Ronald of Kearney, Nebraska, Dale of Cedar Falls, and Lyle of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Pallbearers for Barbara were Harvey Hanson, Russell Davis, Mel Woodward, Ronnie Burke, Robert Davis, and Gordon Conway.

The couple are survived by two daughters, LuAnn Fritz, of Fremont, Nebraska, and Kathy Fritz, of Battle Creek, Iowa; five sons, Dean, David, and Donald, all of Castana, Iowa, Michael, of Decatur, Nebraska, and Brian with the United States Army in Korea; and two grandsons.
