LeRoy Nelsen

LeRoy A. Nelsen, age 62, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Soldier and Ricketts, Iowa, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

LeRoy was born November 5, 1936, at Soldier, Iowa, the son of Jalmer and Eunice (Wingate) Nelsen. He was baptized as an infant on January 10, 1937, and confirmed on October 29, 1950, in the Soldier Lutheran Church. He attended elementary and high school in Soldier, graduating in 1954. He farmed near Soldier and later moved to a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. In 1991, he moved to Onawa where he was living at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa.

Survivors include three sisters and their husbands, Merces and Gale Merrill, of Hastings, Nebraska, Joan and Jack Smart of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Vonda and Jim Healy of Orlando, Florida; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 1999, at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Rev. Paul E. Anderson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Odilo Ahlers, played “He Touched Me.” The vocalist, Mr. Gordon Foss, sang, “My Faith Looks Up To Thee.”

Honorary bearer was Warren Healy. The casket bearers were Steven Smart, Leon Maas, Mark Smart, David Bruhn, Clayton Swenson and Willis Hansen.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery at Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
