IRVIN BARTELS
Irvin Raymond August Bartels, son of Fred and Maggie Radden Bartels, was born on a farm in Monona County, near Mapleton, Aug. 8, 1898, and died at the Carroll Manor Nursing Home in Carroll, Thursday, Oct. 7, 1976, having attained the age of 78 years, 1 month and 30 days.
Mr. Bartels attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He farmed and lived in the Mapleton and Charter Oak vicinity all his life. Jan. 16, 1921, he was united in marriage to Lula Dorale of Charter Oak. They made their home on farms near Mapleton and later Charter Oak. They were blessed with one son and two daughters. In 1945 they moved to Ricketts. Mr. Bartels served as postmaster in Ricketts from 1950 to 1968. Mrs. Bartels died in 1965. Mr. Bartels continued to live in Ricketts until May of this year at which time he entered the Carroll Manor Nursing Home due to ill health.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lula, two brothers, Roy and an infant brother. Survivors include two daughters, Bernice, Mrs. Walter Kuhlmann of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Ilene, Mrs. Emmet Petersen, of Carroll; one son, Glen, of Lake Worth, Fla.; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Plagge of Mapleton and Mrs. Myrtle Plagge of Decorah; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sat. at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Ricketts, with Pastor Dale Werling officiating. Mrs. Loren Lee served as organist and the congregation sang, “Rock of Ages” – “I’m But a Stranger Here” – “What a Friend We have in Jesus.”
Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery-Schleswig.
Pallbearers were Alvin Steffen, Fred Plagge, LaVern Plagge, Gene Henningsen, David Henningsen, Loren Lee.
Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of services.
