HERMAN JESSEN

Herman J. Jessen, son of Frand & Henrietta Jessen, was born November 22, 1892, at Low Moor, Iowa, and died October 4, 1971, at Sioux City following a short illness at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 12 days.

He lived with his parents on a farm and later farmed in the Low Moor community for one year. He came to Mapleton as a young man in 1912 where he farmed until her retired.

He was united in marriage to Alice Taylor at Mapleton on February 5, 1919. One daughter and two sons were born to this union.

Mr. Jessen was a member of the St. John’s Methodist church and was a past member of the church board. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1969.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Mapleton; one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Hazel) Hansen of San Diego, California; two sons, Joseph of Mapleton and Charles of Ricketts, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ben (Anna) Cade of Clinton, Iowa; three brothers, Carl of Clinton, Iowa, John and Frank both of Low Moor, Iowa; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and one grand-daughter.

Services were held Thursday October 7, 1971, at St. John’s Methodist church in Mapleton with Reverend John R. Schlosser officiating. Pallbearers were: Francis Burkhart, Clarence Burkart, Ralph Habinck, Paul Kinney, Herman Bockelman and Alvin Eck. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton.
