27 April 2011ONAWA, Iowa -- Charles Osgood, 69, of Onawa passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at his home.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with John Sears, minister, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force directly after the service. There will be no burial. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.
Charles Allen Osgood was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Charles H. and Marie (Burdette) Osgood. He was raised in Baltimore. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 22, 1959, and served for 26 years until his discharge on Jan. 31, 1985. He was the ranger at the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch from 1986 until his retirement in 2004.
Charles was very active with the Boy Scouts and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge and Vigil and recently was presented the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of Little Sioux American Legion Post 410, Air Force Sgt. Association, PAV, AMVETS and a life member of Monona County VFW Post 2694 and DAV. He also was a member of AARP and INA.
Survivors include his wife, Martha of Onawa; three children, David (Kathy) Osgood of Colorado Springs, Colo., Anna Marie Osgood of Onawa and James Henry Osgood of Onawa; four grandchildren, Jessica Marie Osgood-Cox, Kaitlin Taylor Osgood, Dylan Frank Osgood and Martha Ann Osgood; two sisters, Joan Hesser of Virginia and Barbara (David) Myers of Maryland; a brother, Donald (Diane) Osgood of Maryland; and two sisters-in-law, Rhoda Bell Burgess and Anna Lee White both of Austin, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Allen Osgood; and a sister, Mabel Hannon of Maryland.
