MAPLETON, Iowa -- Phyllis A. Rotnicke, 70, of Mapleton died Friday, May 6, 2011, at Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with Rev. Dr. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Phyllis Ann Rotnicke was born May 20, 1940, in Mapleton, the daughter of Walter Henry "Bud" and Alma Louise (Hesse) Rohde. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, where she remained a lifelong member. Phyllis was a graduate of Mapleton High School with the class of 1958.

On Oct. 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Dale Richard Rotnicke at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The couple moved east of Mapleton, where they farmed for 12 years. It was during this time that their three children were born. The family moved to a farm south of Mapleton, where they farmed until 1990, when they moved in to Mapleton. The couple owned and operated D and P Lounge in Mapleton for eight years. Dale passed away on Jan. 7, 2004. Phyllis continued to live in Mapleton and worked at Siesta Food Store for several years, later retiring due to health reasons.

Phyllis enjoyed bowling and played in numerous leagues over the years, as well as playing cards. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She worked, lived and loved hard, living life to it's fullest!

Survivors left to cherish her memory include two sons and their wives, Ron and Lisa Rotnicke and their children, Scout, Kade, Gage and Ariel, of Turin, Iowa, and Mick and Kris Rotnicke and their children, Korey and Kelsey, of Mapleton; one daughter and her husband, Shelly and Larry Boyle of Danbury, Iowa; one brother and his wife, Leonard and Jane Rohde of Sheldon, Iowa; a very dear friend, Sharon Meeves and her husband, Bill, of Mapleton; along with other relatives and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother and his wife, Richard and Betty Jean (Howard) Rohde.
