CASTANA, Iowa -- Michelle Davis, 54, of Castana passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Monona High School, Ooten Auditorium in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. John Sears officiating. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Michelle Shirley was born Feb. 3, 1957, in Greeley, Colo., the daughter of Turner and Shirley (Siebrecht) Davis. She moved with her family to Odebolt at an early age and attended Schleswig (Iowa) High School, where she graduated in 1975. Michelle furthered her education at Iowa State University at Ames and received a degree in animal science.

She was employed at Boar Power in Manchester, Iowa, and then returned to Iowa State University to obtain a teaching degree.

She taught at Sigourrney (Iowa) High School for a number of years and was one of the first females to teach agriculture in the state. Later, she attended Mississippi State and received a master's degree. After working at Monona Extension Service over two years, she attended Morningside College in Sioux City to further her education. She taught at the Winnebago Indian Reservation a year before joining the West Monona School system as an elementary guidance counselor.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Shirley and Lloyd Rickers of Kiron, Iowa; two brothers, Clark and his wife, Donna Davis of Schaller, Iowa, and Mark Davis of Rose Hill, Iowa; and six nieces and nephews, Audrey, Andrew, Amanda, Anna, Jackson and Erika Rose Davis.

She was preceded in death by her father.
