.SOLDIER, Iowa -- Eldon W. Hanson, 67, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Soldier, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at St. Joseph Villa Nursing Center in Omaha.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Carla Johnsen officiating. There will be no visitation.

Eldon W. Hanson, son of Willard and Elvera (Rusterholz) Hanson, was born Feb. 8, 1944, in Ute, Iowa. Eldon was raised on a farm near Soldier and attended Soldier Consolidated School, graduating in 1962. During his high school years, Eldon was very active in music and he formed a band with friends called the Moonlighters, which played in surrounding towns and at Preparation Park. He was picked for the first chair solo in the clarinet division and was selected as the best clarinetist in the state out of 74 other performers. After graduating high school, Eldon attended Morningside College in Sioux City on a music scholarship and was very active in college concert band. He then furthered his education at the University of Indiana at Bloomington and was involved with the concert orchestra.

Following college, Eldon lived in several locations and worked different jobs until returning to Omaha. While in Omaha, he pursued his passion of music and played with the Nebraska Wind Symphony for several year,s and in later years played with the Heartland Recorder Consort. Eldon enjoyed music and spending time with his family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his four sisters and one brother, Carol (Jim) Long of Sloan, Iowa, Lois Haines of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Patricia (Pete) Hoffman of Onawa, Beverly (Don) Deen of Whiting, Iowa, and David (Kathy) Hanson of Le Mars, Iowa; two aunts, Joye Coroneos of Henderson, Nev., and Thelma Hanson of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a brother in infancy, Steven Wayne.
