WHITING, Iowa -- Jules C. Fegenbush, 87, of Whiting passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Chapel with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in the Whiting City Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the American Legion, Emery Johnson Post 481 of Whiting. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jules Carlson Fegenbush was born Dec. 26, 1923, at Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Lillian (Carlson) Fegenbush. He was raised in the Whiting area and graduated from Whiting High School in the class of 1942. Jules was a World War II veteran, and was proud to join his buddies on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Oct. 11, 2009.

He and Phyllis Miller were united in marriage on Sept. 20, 1947 at Onawa, Iowa. Jules helped his dad and farmed the family farm. He was also employed at the Langren Elevator and later was yard foreman for Payless Cashway until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Whiting, American Legion Emery Johnson 481 and a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Jules and Phyllis loved traveling, and he was always happy being with his family, especially having fun with the grandkids. He was a hard worker and tackled many jobs of construction and building, restoring tractors and was famous for his floats in the annual Whiting Parades.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Phyllis of Whiting; his children, Mark (Bonnie) Fegenbush of Whiting, Becky (Randy) Hunt of Hornick, Iowa, Patty (Dennis) Smith of Onawa, Chris (Deb) Fegenbush of Sioux City, and Denny Fegenbush and special friend, Stacey Smith of Whiting; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and his special canine friends, Biscuit and Brownie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Julie Fegenbush (1980); and a sister, Bernice "Tootie" Dittman.

Memorials may be directed to Emery Johnson 481 American Legion of Whiting or the Siouxland Humane Society.
