.WHITING, Iowa -- Cleta Lawson, 81, of Whiting passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Whiting, with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, Iowa.

Cleta was born Aug. 19, 1929, at Oakland, Iowa, the daughter of Ople and Beulah (Kennedy) Everson. She was a young child when the family moved to Whiting, where she graduated from Whiting High School. Later she earned a two-year teaching certificate at Morningside College in Sioux City and taught school at Woodbine, Iowa.

Cleta and George Lawson were united in marriage on June 20, 1950. The couple made their home in Whiting. George passed away on Feb. 16, 1972. In 1973, Cleta and A. J. Streeter were married.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Whiting.

Survivors include three daughters, Angela Lawson and her husband, Dale Scott of Sergeant Bluff, Deanna Butcher of Sartell, Minn., and Sue and her husband, Kip Axthlem Gass of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Brian (Nicole) Kroll, Dave (Mindy) Kroll, Joel Butcher, Jeff (Alyssa) Butcher, Nick (Kaylen) Gass and Dani Gass; and seven great-grandchildren, Chris, Scott and Kelsey Kroll, Kyleigh, Kayden and Olivia Butcher and Graham Gass.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, George Lawson and A. J. Streeter; and a grandson, Tom Butcher.
