7 November 2010WHITING, Iowa -- Jean Witt, 76, of Whiting passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Burgess Health Center at Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be 11 a. m. Monday at Whiting Christian Church at Whiting, with the Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service at Onawa.
LaDonna Jean was born March 13, 1934, at Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of John Matthew and Velora Blanche (McAdon) Scott. She graduated from Whiting High School in the class of 1952 and furthered her education at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, in their nursing program. She earned a registered nursing degree in 1955.
Jean and Billie Mervin Witt were united in marriage on Feb. 22, 1956, at Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City. Four children were born to this union, Bill, Penny, Jeryl and Lori. Jean lovingly cared for her family and also tirelessly extended nursing care to the sick. She worked in doctors' offices and also St. Joseph Hospital (later named Marian Health Center), where she especially enjoyed serving in post critical care. Billie passed away in 1986. Later, Jean moved to Whiting to care for her mother and be near her family. Again, her love of nursing found her employed at Pleasant View Care Center until ill health forced her retirement.
She was a member of Whiting Christian Church.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Bill L. and Debra Witt of Whiting, three daughters and their husbands, Penny and Mike Overman of Versailles, Ohio, Jeryl J. and Don D. Withee of Whiting, and Lori K. and Brian Bensman of Versailes, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, John and Janet Scott of Des Moines, Iowa; and three sisters and their husbands, Carolyn and Larry Higdon of Kodiak, Tenn., Sandra and David Smitherman of Des Moines, and Kathy and Paul Cleek of Missouri Valley, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Billie, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Wes Albin.
Memorials may be directed to Whiting Christian Church.
