13 June 2010MAPLETON, Iowa -- Margaret J. Wacheldorf, 84, of Mapleton died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Elmwood Care Center in Onawa, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Kurt Seboe officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton.
Margaret Josephine Wacheldorf was born July 30, 1925, on a farm in rural Mapleton, the daughter of Earl and Alma (Ernst) Means. She grew up and was educated in the Mapleton area, graduating from Mapleton High School with the class of 1943. She then attended business school in Sioux City.
She was united in marriage to Elmer "Mert" Wacheldorf on May 13, 1945, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. He passed away May 24, 1994. Margaret worked as a secretary for the Mapleton School and later worked at the R&R Cafe in Mapleton for a number of years.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, caring for her flowers and reading. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. The greatest passion in her life was found in sharing time with her family and always being there to give them her own sincere kind of love. She remained a caring soul until the end. Her presence is already deeply missed.
Those survivors left to cherish their unique memories of Margaret include one son, Rick Wacheldorf of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; three daughters, Lynette Dobrovolny of Mapleton, Bonnie Wacheldorf, also of Mapleton, and Marlene Parr and her husband, Keith, of Castana, Iowa; six grandchildren, Troy Dobrovolny and his wife, Nicole of Crown Point, Ind., Jennifer Lechler and her husband, Kyle of Omaha, Neb., Jodi Kafton and her husband, Brett of Mapleton, Daniel Parr of Hornick, Iowa, Brian Wacheldorf and Lacey of Sergeant Bluff, and Ryan Wacheldorf of Omaha; eight great-grandchildren, Payton, Trey, Matthew, Brody, Bryce, Jessie, Cameron and Braden; a daughter-in-law, Kate Wacheldorf of Sergeant Bluff; a brother-in-law and his wife, Dick and Sherri Wacheldorf of Columbus, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Freda Means of Mapleton, Kathy Wacheldorf and Phyllis Reinbold, both of Sioux City, Norma Marsh of Castana, Iowa, and Judy Riley of Mapleton; along with many nieces and nephews; good friends and neighbors.
Along with her beloved husband, Elmer, Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Stephanie Parr; one great-grandson, Stephen Kafton; and one brother, Marvin Means.
Pallbearers will be Eugene and Jerry Means, Kurt Thiel, Denny and Randy Wacheldorf and Mark Riley.
