BLENCOE, Iowa -- Gertrude Thieman Jacobson Scott, 90, Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Blencoe, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at her residence at Premier Estates Assisted Living in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with Robert Hettinger officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday.

Gertrude was born Oct. 25, 1920, near Decatur, Neb., the daughter of Emil and Mamie (Edwards) Y'Deen. She graduated from Decatur High School.

In 1941, she married Charles Thieman and eight children were born to this union. After Charles' death, she married Don Jacobson in 1967. After Don's death, she married Ivel Scott in 1984. Ivel passed away in 1993.

She worked at Armour Packing Plant, T&H Cafe, home assistance to the elderly, Glenwood State Hospital School, Monona County Public Health and the West Monona School. Gert was the mayor of Blencoe, state recorder for Royal Neighbors, former member of Federated Women's Club and the Loess Hills Hospitality Association.

Gert was an adventurer and never saw a road she didn't like. "I wonder where that road goes" was a common saying. She would load up eight kids and head west to see the ocean and visit family. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, flowers, birds, wildlife, and sharing this love with her children and grandchildren. She was a painter, quilter and photographer.

Survivors include her children, Margaret (Jeff) Blatchford of Onawa, Michael (Sheryl) Jacobson of Holmen, Wis., Curtis Jacobson of Sioux City, Beth (Larry) Porter of Glenwood, Iowa, Rebecca (Dan) Fitzpatrick of Sioux City, Barbara (Sid) Stowe of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Wayne (Marlis) Thieman of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Deb Thieman of Sioux City; a special nephew and his wife, Vic and Margaret Anderson of Blencoe; a stepdaughter, Judy (Jim) Stafford of Wilsonville, Maine; a sister, Luella Norris of Elgin, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her three husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Thieman; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two brothers; and six sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the Blencoe Fire Department or the Blencoe Community Center.
