Orrin E. Babb, age 85, of Mapleton, Iowa, died on Monday, September 14, 1987, of an accidental gunshot wound as his home.
Services were at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 1987, in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The Reverend Dick Krambeck officiated. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 1987, with a Masonic service by Quarry Lodge #404 AF&AM at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Babb was born on August 26, 1902 to George and Florence (Wheeler) Babb in Wendell, Idaho, and moved with his parents to Payette, Idaho, as a youth. He graduated from the Payette High School in 1919. He was employed by the Bradshaw Homey Company at Wendell, Idaho. On June 4, 1930, he married Anastacia Boger at Dillon, Montana. He operated his own bee business in Montana and Idaho, before coming to Iowa in 1942, where he continued in the business. He managed the Iowa State Liquor Store in Mapleton, Iowa, for more than twenty years, retiring in 1974. Mrs. Babb died on March 15, 1984.
He was a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Mapleton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William (Sharon) Meeves of Bennington, Nebraska; two sons, Regenald of Fremont, Nebraska and George of Sioux City, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Inez Randolph of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Jessen, Lester Theobald, William Hagerdon, Fred Kuhlmann, Dale Robnicke, and Leonard Powell.
