The Obituary of Myrtle A. Babcock

Myrtle Ann Bisbee, daughter of Charles and Martha Ann Bisbee was born August 21, 1879, in Belvidere Township at Turin, Iowa.

She received her grade schooling in the Country schools mostly in Belvidere Township. Then to the Castana Normal School for High School and Normal Training. Later she taught in the Monona County schools.

She attended college at Ames, Iowa and spent several years assisting her mother on the well known Bisbee farm in Belvidere Township.

On February 20, 1910, she was married to Walter Babcock in Chicago, Illinois. Their first years were spent in Turin and Onawa. IN 1925 she left Onawa to make her home in Pasadena, California.

She was a member of the Congregational church of Pasadena and a past member of the Studio Club of Onawa.

She passed from this life at her home in Pasadena on May 24, 1960, at the age of eighty years and nine months.

She leaves two nephews, Charles Bisbee of Onawa and Mack Bisbee of Grad Island, Nebraska, and a niece, Mrs. Glen Davis of Norfolk, Nebraska.

Mrs. Babcock possessed a strong and noble character and to know her was to love her.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31st at the Congregational Church in Onawa, with Rev. C.E. Hanan conducting the services. Mr. Davies sang “Abide With Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Marie Danforth. The casket bearers were Donald Reese, Watson Davis, Merle Shaffer, Harry Potts, Darrell Walters and Emil Petersen. Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery at Turin with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
