29 June 1969Dorrance M. Babe, a resident of Moorhead, was born November 9, 1914, at Pisgah, a son of Jack and Ella Babe, and passed from this life at a Sioux City hospital Friday, May 16, at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 7 days, after a brief illness.
He had lived in the Pisgah – Moorhead communities until 1956 when the family moved to California and he was employed by Foremest Dairy Ass’n. In 1967 he returned to Moorhead and for the past 15 months had operated a service station in Moorhead.
Early in life he was baptized in the Christian Church at Moorhead. He was a member of Elk Lodge No. 586, A.F. & A.M. of Moorhead and the Consistory at Long Beach, California.
Dorrance was united in marriage to Irene Bryant on December 31, 1935 at Vermillion, S.D. To this union two sons and one daughter were born; Jack of Long Beach, Calif., Robert of Torrance, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Jensen of San Pedro, Calif.
Other survivors include his wife, eight grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Ella Babe of Long Beach and a brother, Burnia Babe of San Pedro, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father, John (Jack) Babe.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead with Pastor Harold E. Koehler officiating. Magnus Jepson sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” accompanied by Mrs. Jepson.
Casket bearers were Robert McGuire, Dick Determan, Bert Wood, E.W. “Red” McCall, Elliott Lund and Merle Lee.
Interment was in Spring Valley Cemetery, where members of the Elk Lodge conducted Masonic services with LeRoy Worden serving as 0aster and Park Moorhead as Orator. Arrangement were by Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
