Fern Fayetta Andersen, Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, April 30, 1989, in Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala, Nebraska. Death came at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Mrs. Anderson, the former Fern F. Bennett, was born June 14, 1905, in Lexington, Illinois, the daughter of Elza and Maude E. (Carrier) Bennett. She was raised in Onawa and received her nursing training in Omaha. She served as a registered nurse in private nursing in Denver for many years and later at the Onawa Hospital in Onawa. She moved to Ogallala to be near members of her family in 1981 following the death of her husband, Calvin Andersen. She had returned to Onawa two years ago where she resided until April 7, 1989 when she moved back to Ogallala due to ill health.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Shirley) Schmidt, Ogallala, Nebraska and Mrs. Ernest (Betty Jo) Oliphant of Clear Water, Texas; two sons, William E. Smith and his wife of Arroyo Grande, California, and Robert L. Smith and his wife of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Marjorie Burgess of Onawa; and 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 1989 at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Bryan Myers officiating. The organist, Mrs. Orville Rutledge, accompanied the soloist, Diane Myers, in the selection “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Bearers were Steven Schmidt, Ron Schmidt, Greg Schmidt, Mark Smith, Mike Burgess and Russell Cooper.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
