Harry Andersen 1916-2007
Harry Andersen, 91, Soldier, Iowa, died Monday, December 17, 2007 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
Harry Ollgaard Andersen was born September 20, 1916, the son of Nels Peter and Lena Marie (Ollgaard) Andersen at home on the farm in Jordan Township. He attended country school and graduated from Soldier High School in 1933.
Harry and Vivian Lucile (Norby) Andersen were united in marriage February 25, 1950 at Soldier Lutheran Church. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Soldier area. Harry was active with his church. Farm Bureau, Extension Service, ASC, FHA, and the original board of Western Iowa Feeder Calf Association. In 2005 the family farm was designated a “Century Farm.” The last few years Harry has resided at Elmwood Care Center.
Survivors include two sons, Jim and his wife, Lisa of Madrid, Iowa and Dick of Soldier; a daughter and her husband, Kathryn “Kathy” and Paul Kalmoe of Madrid; five grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler and Nathan Andersen and Sarah and Shauna Kalmoe and a great-granddaughter, Ella Andersen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; parents, Nels Peter and Lena Andersen; one brother, Axel and a sister, Olga.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007 at Soldier Lutheran Church, with Pastor Meggan Manlove officiating. Music selections were the congregation singing “Softly and Tenderly” and “Hymn of Promise”, a solo “My Jesus I Love Thee” provided by Marc Clemon and a duet “Amazing Grace” provided by Melissa Jepson and Anya Sibunka. Jean Dommer was the organist. Burial was in Jordan Township Cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Casket bearers were Leonard Jensen, Paul Jensen, Alan Hadden, David Kruse, Lee Clemon and Rick Davis. Honorary bearers were Duane Fredrickson, Andy L Andersen, Jerry Jones, Gordon Swenson, Bruce Jepson and Neal Gorham.
