ONAWA, Iowa -- Ralph J. Miller, 82, of Onawa passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Ralph was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Vermillion, S.D., the youngest son of Alfred and Christine (Jensen) Miller. He graduated from USD in Vermillion.

He married Dora Mae Girard on June 21, 1950, in Vermillion. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as chief of operations, Omaha District, Missouri River Division, in 1986 after 30 years of service.

He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and playing pool with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dora Mae of Onawa; his nine children, David (Valorie) Miller of Golden, Colo., Carol (Bill)Thompson of Sioux City, Dwight (Mari) Miller of Onawa, Douglas (Cindy) Miller of Sioux City, Duane (Teresa) Miller of Onawa, Carla (Roger) Reiling of Moorhead, Iowa, Catherine (John) Webster of Whiting, Iowa, Darl (Elaine) Miller of Onawa, and Daniel (Wendy) Miller of Sioux City; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jacqueline (MP Corey) Beverly of Moore, Idaho, Joey Miller of Encinitas, Calif., Jeannie Miller of Denver, Colo., Dr. Jonathan (Dr. Ramona) and daughter, Joslyn Thompson of Johnston, Iowa, Justin (Alysa Mozak) Thompson of Ames, Iowa, Nick (Mindy) Holverson and Keegan and Kinnick of Onawa, Kira (Dr. Brandon) Jensen and Carsten of Sioux City, SFC Eric (Trina) and Madison and Caden Miller of Cornwall, N.Y., Curtis (Sara) Miller of Sioux Falls, S.D., Amanda Miller of Sioux Falls, Amber (Chris) and Caden and McKinley Cowles of Colorado Springs, Colo., SSgt. Daniel Trudeau stationed in Tuscon, Ariz., currently serving in Afghanistan, Sgt. Jensen (Patricia) Miller and Abraham, Michael, Adrianna of Jacksonville, N.C., currently serving at Camp Lejeune, Catherine (Christopher) Bainbridge and Lauren and Juliet of Sioux City, Christina (SSgt. Ryne) Barker and Tanner of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Adam Miller of Onawa, 2nd Lt. Ashton Miller of Alexandria, Va., and Caitlyn and Cael Miller of Sioux City; a sister, Eileen Iverson of Centerville, S.D.; and sister-in-law, Marlys Miller of Vermillion, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Christine Miller; brother, Harry and his wife, Maida Miller; brother, Ernest Miller; and sister, Betty Abraham.
