UTE, Iowa -- Helena W. Bumsted, 84, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with Pastor Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

Helena Wilhelmina Bumsted was born Nov. 29, 1925, to William and Josephine (Waderich) Kruse near Soldier, Iowa. Helene, as she liked to be called, was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute.

She was happily married to Lloyd Bumsted on Feb. 3, 1946. To this union five children were born.

She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished life to the fullest. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Hats, Ladies Aide and the morning coffee klatch. She taught Sunday School and Saturday School. She was a charter member of the Lucky 13 Club.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Joan and her husband Leonard Trimpe of Ute, Richard of Omaha, Neb., Karen and her husband Marvin Koch of Omaha, Judy and her husband Michael Denney of Schaller, Iowa, and Robert and his wife Rose of Soldier; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Ronk of Dunlap, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Beverly Bumsted, Barbara Bumsted, Evelyn Kruse and Katherine Kruse; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; and brothers, August, Raymond, Leonard and Floyd.
