ONAWA, Iowa -- Tom L. Richardson, 71, Onawa passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Todd Owen officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Tommy Lee was born Oct. 30, 1938, at Whiting, Iowa, the son of Don and Esther (Robinson) Richardson. He was raised in the Whiting area and attended school at Whiting Public School. He joined the U.S Marine Corps in 1957.

Tom and Marlene Reed were united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1957, in Whiting. After Tom's discharge from the military in 1960, the couple made their home at various locations in Iowa and Nebraska. During that time, he was associated in sales and production of a seed corn company. They moved to Onawa in 1994. Later, he and his son-in-law formed a partnership in a seed corn company until his retirement five years ago.

Tom was a member of First Congregational Church, UCC of Whiting. He also was an active member and served as past chaplain of the Siouxland Detachment Marine Corp League. He was a true outdoors man and enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting and horse races. His first joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Onawa; two daughters, Cheryl Richardson of Onawa and Michelle Kohlholf of Grand Island, Neb.; three grandchildren, Chris (Jackie) Archer, Cody Archer and Kali Kohlholf; a great-grandchild, Lakin Archer; his mother, Esther Richardson of Whiting; two brothers, Larry (Peggy) Richardson of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Fred (Barb) Richardson of Yorktown, Va.; a sister, Karen Moberg (Howard Flemming) of Glendale, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a grandson, Todd Archer.
