ONAWA, Iowa -- Madge O. Solorio, of Onawa, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Madge was born Dec. 11, 1918, at Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Ermal (Bowen) Gallagher. She was raised in the Hornick area and graduated from Hornick High School in 1937. After high school she went to nurse's training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City and then worked at the Omaha Bomber Plant. She married Lawrence "Larry" Solorio May 8, 1948, in Omaha, and the couple made their home and raised their three daughters in Omaha. During her career she worked as an L.P.N. for four years at various locations near the Sioux City area. She retired after working for the Carpenter Paper Company in Omaha, where she filled numerous positions.

Larry was a bus driver for Metro Area Transit for 35 years, until his retirement in 1980. The couple moved to Onawa a year later. Larry passed away April 22, 2007, in Onawa.

Madge was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and square dancing. She always enjoyed making a variety of crafts and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay and her husband Ed Tucker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Anita Gerum of Onawa and Carol Hunter of Caldwell, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, Athena Colucci, Roxanna Farley, Stefan Gerum, Larry Hunter, Daylene Hunter, Tanya Ruffing, Pauline Cowger, Edie Eitmann, Tiffany Arrick, and Brad Tucker; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine "Geri" Lynn of Hornick, and Mildred "Millie" Carr of Whiting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; parents, Fred and Ermal; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Lucille Gallagher; and a great-grandchild, Mattison Eitmann.
