MOORHEAD, Iowa -- James Allen Kalskett, 79, Moorhead passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with the Rev. Carla Johnsen officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. James Allen Kalskett was born on the family farm in rural Moorhead on July 20, 1930, the son of Winston and Florence (Mahler) Kalskett.

Jimmy married Elsie, daughter of Clarence and Tracy Moltsau, in 1952. To this union, eight children were born. The couple lived on the farm and raised their children until retiring in 2006, when they moved and enjoyed their home in Moorhead. They spent time with the family, grandkids, friends and all who stopped by their welcoming home.

Jim had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and road construction. He also owned and operated his own business in Moorhead selling fertilizer and chemicals at AGRI-BIZZ Co. Jim farmed the family farm until he retired and moved to Moorhead.

He leaves those to mourn him including his wife of 58 years, Elsie Kalskett of Moorhead; six children, Terri (Gary) Savery of Moorhead, Gary (Diane) Kalskett of Moorhead, Jeanne (Doug) Nelsen of Soldier, Iowa, Susan (Bill) Kirlin of Modale, Iowa, Craig (Peg) Kalskett of Leland, Iowa, and Rita (Gary) Utman of Modale; 17 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; two sisters, Mary Helen (Jim) Severson of Soldier, and Anita (John) Moorhead of Moorhead; a brother, Charles (Nancy) Kalskett of Gretna, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Norma Byers of Sergeant Bluff.

He was preceded in death by infant twin children, Lisa and Larry Kalskett; his parents; his parents-in-law; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Moltsau.
