4 July 2010KENNEBEC, Iowa -- Marvin Eugene Redmond, 83, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Kennebec, passed away Friday, July 2, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton, Iowa, with the Rev. Craig Bock officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Township Cemetery at Albaton, with military honors conducted by the American Legion, Emery Johnson Post 481 of Whiting. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Marvin Eugene Redmond was born Feb. 12, 1927, at Fairfax, S.D., the son of Leo Roy and Matilda Christina (Brenden) Redmond. He was raised in the Sloan, Iowa, area and graduated from Sloan High School. Marvin joined the U.S. Navy on March 21, 1945. He and his four brothers all served in various branches of the military and various locations during World War II. After his discharge on Aug. 3, 1946, he worked in road construction in South Dakota and later farmed at Kennebec, Iowa, with his brother, Lowell until his retirement in 1987.
Marvin was a 59-year member of the American Legion, Emery Johnson Post 481 of Whiting.
Survivors include a sister, Vivian Livermont of Rapid City, S.D.; a brother and his wife, Gale and Eva Dean Redmond of Sloan; two sisters-in-law. Patsy Redmond of Onawa. and Dorothy Redmond of Gretna, Neb.; nine nieces and nephews, Joyce (Nick) Eckes of Lander, Wyo., Helen (David) Bartling of Rapid City, Paul Livermont Jr. of Rapid City, Brenda (Dennis) Roarson of Onawa, Doreen (Steve) Redmond-Palmerton of Norman, Okla., Jenise (Ralph) Guenther of Sergeant Bluff, Jeff Redmond of Sloan, Julie (Gary) Sutton of Lancaster, Calif., and Bob Walker (husband of Stephanie Redmond Walker, deceased in 2006).
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leland, Raymond, Lowell and Glen Redmond; two sisters, Helen Carlson and a sister in infancy; a brother-in-law, Lester Livermont; and a niece, Stephanie Walker.
