BLENCOE, Iowa -- Elizabeth "Bette" Marley, 83, of Blencoe died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Harry D. McAlpine officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Elizabeth Mary was born July 15, 1922, in Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Marie (Spiegel) Torticill. She graduated from Blencoe High School in 1939, and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, before teaching country school near Blencoe.

She married James J. Marley on May 16, 1942, in Blencoe. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Blencoe area. James passed away Jan. 8, 2002, in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Blencoe and the Rosary Society.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Paul Lage of Omaha and Teresa and Dennis McCandless of Moorhead, Iowa; two sons, Patrick and his wife, Charlene, of St. Paul, Minn., and Michael W. Marley of Blencoe; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dolores Nutt of Winterset, Iowa, Agnes Mann of Kansas City, Mo., Theresa and her husband, Dr. Ed Poulsom, of Denver, Colo., and Mary Hosford of Polk City, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Phil and Ann Torticill of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Gary and Marcy Torticill of Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Rosalie Torticill of Onawa, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, James, she was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Tom and Joseph and his wife, Ann Marley; a grandson, Daniel Lage; and two brothers, Leo and Bill Torticill.

Bette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
