3 April 2004BLENCOE, Iowa -- Art Heisler Jr., 81, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Blencoe, passed from this life Friday, April 2, 2004, at Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Art was born July 24, 1922, in Onawa, the son of Arthur L. and Irene (Hyatt) Heisler. He graduated from Blencoe High School in 1940. He later served 27 years in the U.S. Navy and attained the rank of chief at his discharge.
He married Ruth B. Cole on May 4, 1945, in Hiawatha, Kan. She died April 11, 1987, in Onawa.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Onawa, where he managed the lodge for many years. He resided in Sergeant Bluff the past seven years.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Christine Heisler of Saluda, Va.; two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Todd Traum of Sergeant Bluff and Carol and John Mulcahey of Charlestown, W.V.; eight grandchildren, Andrew Heisler, Jackie and R. Nick Traum and Traci, Shannon, Nicole, Michael and Phillip Mulcahey; a brother and his wife, Francis "Swede" and Wanda Heisler of Onawa; several nieces and nephews; and his friends at Floyd House in Sergeant Bluff.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard; his stepfather, George Carlson; three brothers, Fred, Robert and Doc; and a stepsister and her husband, Marge and Bob Buckley.
